About Sasord

The idea of the establishment of South Asian School of Research Development (SASORD), a scholastic institution, was conceived

from the need to break free from conventional thinking and introduce a nexus of ideas and practices that would pave ways for changes that contribute to the development of a scholarly and equitable society in South Asia.
SASORD is an effort of nationally and internationally recognized scholars, researchers, intellectuals and development experts, who will constitute its faculty, with a commitment to reconstruct and socially transform society in Nepal and South Asia through academic endeavors. SASORD will therefore, contribute to critical thinking to provide an alternative to conventional teaching, learning and research exercises that dominate academia and policy discourse in the region. It recognizes the essential nature of a balance of theory and practicum and incorporates them in all its academic programmes to strengthen students’ understanding of the realities of their society.

Vision
The vision of SASORD is to contribute towards building a prosperous, democratic and equitable society through the development of critical and engaged scholars in the South Asian region.

Mission
The mission of SASORD is to become South Asia’s centre of academic excellence through the promotion of critical and constructive thinking, learning and action thereby empowering individuals, institutions and communities.

Approach
SASORD is an open and egalitarian academic institute. It welcomes ideas, theories, methodologies and cultures from across the region to promote learning through regional networking and cooperation. Its academic environment is designed to foster informed, reasoned debates that respect diverse and critical perspectives. It focuses on participatory teaching and learning approach, thereby encouraging students to innovate ideas and practices. Innovation through academic exercise will be scaled up and scaled out to the practice of development and socio-economic transformation in the region.
SASORD is committed to creating visionaries, socially engaged and successful scholars. They would be given platforms to share knowledge, experiences, values and work collectively to meet the challenges that surround Asia, such as, regionalism, cohesion and cooperation. Reflective academic practices have been incorporated into SASORD’s curriculum to empower students and build their understanding of themselves in relation to their region. Their participation in real development issues and engagements in organizations that work to resolve contemporary education challenges would give them an impetus to dig deeper, push further, ask bigger questions and enrich society with equity and justice.
SASORD would build on and capitalize the lessons learnt in the field of development in South Asia; a region that has inspired many a scholars, researchers and thinkers who have since long visited and re-visited it for its oriental values and intellectual stimulation.
SASORD will be developed into a full-fledged institution in higher education that runs undergraduate, graduate and PhD programs, leading to an establishment of a University in the long run. It would be linked with reputed universities and research institutions worldwide. Exchange learning and sandwich courses to and from the universities will be a part of the process and the courses will be mutually accredited where possible. The School will conduct high quality academic, applied and action research and engage in public policy discourses for the socio-economic transformation of the region.
SASORD will also serve as a critical think tank in the field of development policies and practices in South Asia through research, advisory inputs and services.
